9-May-2008.
A walk across the 12th main and 1st cross shows a perfect example of resident’s own initiative of keeping the surrounding area clean. Credit must go to Mrs Gupta and Gopi Gupta for putting up a concrete road shoulder on either side of their home. With a touch of paint to mthe shoulders , that entire area would look very clean and neat. Thank you Mrs Gupta.
Shubha Menon, Shubha Girish , Sabita and Smita are practicing hard to complete the 10K Sunfeast Marathon. Currently, they practice every morning from 5.am onwards. From LW gate to Kundana Halli gate and back ensures a 4.5 KM run. All in ½ hour. Please do join them at 5am and participate or at least wake up and cheer them!. Please call Shuba Menon to give you a wake up call , Sabita for the morning Cha.
Go green initiative at Whitefield. An ambitious plan to plant over 100,000 trees within 22 sq km around Whitefield has been taken up by the Rotary club Whitefield and few residents of Palm meadows. Please call on Tharun / Sabita , if you wish to plant a tree near/ next to your home. The team will do the needful.
Please , please vote tommorow. The booth is open from 7AM to 5Pm RG Halli school. The early we go the better to avoid any rush.
Glenn Wrote : As you know I too love trees and want to do what I can for tree planting - I and my brother have planted 100 trees last year in another layout (to date there is a 90% survival rate) and are planning to plant atleast twice as many this rainy season.
I personally would also like to replant the trees outside the front wall of Laughing waters with some better variety such as mahogany etc. which stands out beautifully when it matures and adds a touch of class to our colony - I am willing to get the saplings and pay for the planting etc.
I think we should try and work out the costings for a drip irrigation system for the layout on a phase by phase basis and then put it to all the members - After all the ambience of the layout is being enhanced so much with more greenery and not to mention the automatic increase in land values as a result of the feel good factor with so many trees. We need to however ensure that the trees get enough water as they are stunted in quite some areas. I would like to get in touch with the others in the tree planting initative and would really like some planned and coodinated planting rather than haphazard stuff.

The New MC team has begun work.

My morning tea was interrupted by – 2 drongos , Maina and ‘DidYouDoIt’ pair (Lapwings). Their yakketyaakkkk sounded like they were annoyed. Puthari converses with them well – after a 15 minute talk – Puthari asks me : “Has the new committee started their Work ?” I said “yes” – they are a smart and proactive set of people.
She then looked surprised and asked me to go to the Main entrance .
Our Good young Lady “Figgy” was in tears – her branches were cut out of shape. She has always provided great amount shade and plenty of Fruity figs to all the little birds and squirrels. She now appears to be in a bad state. She asked me the reason for cutting down her branches which she had taken a long while to grow – “after all I have been careful enough not to go over the Electric lines !! – Why were my branches brought down??
I had NO answer
. When I thought about it I figured the reason why the birds sounded depressed/ distressed. I told figgy and my neigh-birds that I will definitely convey their anguish to the MC and request them not to cause such harm to them again. On the other hand, I told figgy and team – be happy the NEW TEAM has BEGUN WORK!!! Rest assured the MC will ensure that you will have more friends and lots more color and greenery in just a short while...

This news comes at a time when we are coping with complete grief over the loss of our Gulmohur tree on our farm or rather what is now Renaissance Jagriti. They had promised not to touch those trees in the front area and the Gulmohur was the first tree we planted ourselves. Anyway – it’s gone.
By the way, the “Didyoudoit” birds are Hoopoes not Lapwings. The males are the ones that make the racket during mating season and protect the female while she’s nesting. Otherwise they make a whooping noise hence the name. They look beautiful when their crest is up. They are ground foragers so every time we burn the grounds we are ruining their habitat and of the crow pheasants and of ...!

Happy Rain!! ...21st Apr

Vinod has been kept busy by the Contractor
- the contractor absconds every other day. However, Vinod is confident of completing the fencing of the entire Compound Wall of L Waters. So far the barbed fence has come up to Prakash’s home – another 50% to go
I have to admit that I am impressed by Col B’s leadership skills. After taking over the responsibility of managing the Street and general Maintenance, I see him giving instructions at 8 in the morning. We ought to thank him for ensuring his presence when the weeds were cleared. With the Rains and our Trees blooming, I am told that his focus is on clearing up the Drains. Thank you Col. It is also nice to see the Working committee team meet up at the gate in the mornings – this does give an assurance that work indeed is going on
.
You will soon find Sandeep experimenting on the Rain Water re charge. The idea is to remove the slab at a distance from each other , fill it with jelly – this ensures that rain water percolates into the ground. Please, if you find him working under the hot sun – do care him for a glass of juice. Once again, Puthari , told me that he likes LIME juice!
The Last week, the rain water harvest group visited our place – they have provided designs and implementation of Ground water Re charge. The Plan is available at http://laughingwaters.pbwiki.com/Ground
The
tree planting group has been formed – Mukherjee, Tharun, Sandeep, Amit and Vinod have agreed to take care and maintain the saplings. Medha agrees to instruct her contractors to water the saplings on her lane. The ever enthusiastic Prathima wants few Gulmohars’ – and has agreed to care over 15 saplings on her lane. So far over
40 small pits have been dug up – manure and Soil ready - in all probability we could plant them next week or by the month end.
The
STP work is going on – probably slow according to Col and Prathima’s – however, they have agreed to complete the Civil work within 40 Days.
The
Road work has hit a Road Block J - the BSNL contractor is once again absconding.
Miss a heart beat
- The Registration office has been shifted from koramangala to Varthur.
- The rumor is that the new Registrar now claims that the Survey 104/06 is Government land. I shall update you all with more info in couple of days time. Right now no Property is being registered at L waters. Again the above may be due to some clear documentation – this is not serious right now.
Water ...11th Apr
April 11th email sent to a select group of members
A good Day to all!.
On the first note, I would want to request to send me an email if you do not want to receive emails from me.
- Water – In case you are not aware, AECS , brooke-fields are with out water. L waters residents are indeed lucky to have maintained a steady water supply till date. While this is good, it is time that we take care of the situation. We have requested Ground water recharge experts to provide their suggestion to charge ground water. Experts are expected this Saturday. Along the same lines, a thought has been initiated; why not let the rain water be allowed to seep into the ground? Should we not block the drains so that the water, say in few hours gets into the ground? Preetha and I are aware that it takes close to 4 hours for the water to seep in.
- Avenue Trees - Most of them are old, unhealthy – while we take care of them, it is about time we plant new ones. The plan is to plant short/ shrub kind of tree on one end where electricity lines are present, while long / bush / fruit bearing which ensure that our water/sewage line don’t get affected can be planted on the other side of our roads. My morning walks with Puthari and her pups, I get an opportunity to peep into every home garden – Amit and Mr Mukherjee stand out !. Amit will have to share how he manages to grow strawberry at his home garden! – Amit, you have a Green thumb!. Dear Amit , can you transform the know how with the rest – or please can you spend one day in a week and ensure you take on the responsibility of growing avenue trees on the main road ? You need not be part of any Committee for this – just the 100 trees on the main avenue – you will have to choose / plan and grow them. Mr. Mukherjee – please can you take ownership on Prathima’s lane – right now it is barren. Yours truly will run around, organize plants / manure / water and look after 2 lanes which ever is assigned to us. Criteria is that it should not be near our home.
- Sandeep’s – theory for termites has really helped. Col B has started to water the trees opposite his home and they are now termite less. I tried the same on the main avenue and on the 2nd main – Water is through the tanker – once a week . Results to be seen by next week.
- Smiling Waters –
- Grewals home – which has 2 sites of 10,000 sqft and a huge House has been bought out by X who now wants to demolish and re construct. Why ?? because the current home is a Vaasthu disaster!!. And how much ?? – the tree next to their house whispered to me that it was settled for whopping X crore. Wait…. Before Preetha and Mrs M ask – Yes – the STP charges will be cleared and all dues – to the tune of 50K will also be settled.
- Simba ,says his master enjoys the morning walk , and he listens to Rahul gandhi’s UP speech when he walks. Please ,simba , can you ask him to measure the distance around the walk way - meaning , how many rounds of the walk way would be it be a KM .
- Puthari , requests Uncle Sandeep to provide lighting to the park. Once done, she has asked me to treat uncle Sandeep to a “roomali with a View” lunch! Kashmiri food is the specialty is what she tells me!.
